As many of you know, I was away last week on a study trip: Somatics, Trauma, and Resilience.
One of my favorite things about witchcraft is how you can integrate your own interests, gifts, and skills into your practice.
I’m always struck by the similarities between contemporary healing practices and traditional witchcraft. For instance…
… the idea of disruption and unsettling.
In order for transformation or healing to occur, the ordinary way of doing things has to be disrupted.
When healing trauma (or any pattern that has outworn its usefulness), you have to disrupt what’s already happening.
I spoke about this last week when I talked about dealing with naughty neighbors by doing something unexpected.
When you introduce a strange element, you create an opportunity for something new to happen.
Witchcraft is the art of causing change at will.
To witch something is to make it strange, to bend it and shape it, to introduce an element of the uncanny and unexpected.
As witches, we have to develop the capacity to live inside the heart of change and be at peace with it. Be joyful in it even.
If you’re ready to change the weather patterns moving through your life right now, try changing the atmosphere by:
Wearing a costume
Adding music, including singing and chanting
Changing the scent
Doing it out of order (you know, like saying the Lord’s Prayer backwards 🤣)

The Summer Solstice is coming up, which means it’s time for your next candle blessing spell!
Summer Solstice is the first day of Cancer season and is also known as the Gate of Life.
It’s a great time to do a spell for something delightful that you wish to begin, which you’d like to see come to harvest in the Autumn.
