Winter Solstice Candle Spell Reflections
On Winter Solstice, I began the spell to help my Founder’s Level Subscribers release what they no longer wanted to carry from 2023 and call in blessings for 2024. I used green candles to symbolize new life, and new growth. I rang bells and sang songs to Hecate and Cerridwen, the wise hags of winter. I gave offerings of wine and roses, milk and honey. I anointed each of your candles with sacred waters gifted to me from one of my teachers, which she brought back from Mount Shasta. For each candle, I spoke your name three times, and said your petition out loud visualizing it rolling along the webs of the weird like a drop of honey looking for its bee.
Initially, I felt some resistance. It felt like there were a lot of things people were struggling to let go of. But by the end of the ritual, once the candles had all burned and shared their light with the world, I pulled a card to see what final message spirit wanted to offer you, and it was… The World. I laughed out loud because it was such an appropriate message, a journey successfully concluded, and a new one joyfully begun. As we move forward into 2024, may you carry with you only wisdom and love.
This video is just a little snippet from the ceremony, but I thought you’d appreciate how our magic called forth a visitor.
Founders, please send in your petitions for the next candle spell by Wednesday, January 31st, 6pm. The spell is for Imbolc, the holiday of Brigid, goddess of inspiration and spring. It will be a spell of awakening. What would you like to awaken within or around you as we move towards spring? Send your petition of 40 words or less to guardian@oracleoflosangeles.com

What We Know of Witches…
At the Reading Group on Thursday (scroll down for the link), I wrote down fragments of our conversation, which we decided could reveal our perspective on witchcraft (based on the text we read). You can leave notes in the chat if you weren’t able to attend live. Here is a short litany created from our conversation…
Witches are…
Nature, stubborn, a way to survive
Sense of enchantment, reversals, trees talking
Ancestral, non-conformist, remembering, we live and die by nature
Witnessing, seeing, marginal genius, seeing clearly, names of trees, life is shaking
Timeline jumping, violence, rebellion, secret language of nature
Theory of medicine, both remedy and curse, a strange mirror
Titiba never saw her daughter again
Nature, aspens shaking, the body saying
We the wild beasts of poetry
Of magic.
