What to Do on the New Moon in Leo
Simple Ritual, Tarot Spread, and Journal Prompts for today's New Moon
(Subscribers, you can listen to voice over above as you’re doing the ritual so you don’t have to keep checking the computer. Just play it through the Substack app and press pause when you’re doing the activities).
It’s the New Moon in Leo and you’ve probably been hearing all about its volatility on social media: this Moon is squaring Uranus and sliding slyly past Venus in retrograde.
You’ll hear a lot of talk about the danger of manifesting on this New Moon because Uranus has a “Tower Card for liberation!” type energy, and Venus retrograde (trining Chiron) is having us reflect on past heart wounds and heal them.
It could get messy.
In effort to avoid the mess, but still attend to the rhythms and cycles of the Moon, I’ve created a ritual activity and tarot spread for you below.
It’s all about celebrating your past emotional victories. Leo loves a victory, and Venus trine Chiron can work its healing magic by acknowledging your wins.
The Uranus part comes in when you liberate yourself from the moral of your old, outworn stories.
This New Moon is an opportunity to tell a new story about how and whom you love.
Enjoy!
Love,
Amanda
New Moon Ritual - Victory Stories of the Heart
Ingredients:
Bay leaves, tarot cards, journal, pen/pencil, candle, matches, a sharpie
Step One: Ground and Center + Altar
Create a simple victory altar. Take a few breaths, feel the floor beneath you and the air around you. Focus your attention on the present moment. Light a candle and some incense. Call in your guides, or any energy you’d like to be present.
Step Two: Journal Prompts
Describe an old story about the way that you love that you feel ready to let go of.
In writing (or dance, or music, or however you work through ideas), tell that story anew, only this time as a victory.
Step Three: Tarot Spread
Pull three cards.
What Spirit wants me to know about my old story. Where it says I am in the process of change. Words of wisdom around how I’m seeing things.
How this coming month will/can assist me in letting go of this old story, and transforming it into a victory. Steps I can take. Rituals I can do. Suggestions.
What can help me or guide me in this process. Gifts. Opportunities. Blessings which will aid me if I choose to use them.
Note: Tarot is always speaking in the voice of love, interpret the cards in the most loving way.
Reversals or challenging cards = things you’re letting go of (if in the past), things tarot is offering you compassion for struggling with (if in the present), places which will receive a healing if you’re open to it this month (if in the gifts).
Step Four: Ritual of the Laurel Leaves
Take a moment to observe the flame of the candle, see it burning away all old stories.
Reflect on its radiance, and how it embodies the Leo spirit within you – courageous, confident, and warm.
In simple language, speak or think your new story of love. If you like, you can turn it into a chant.
Leo rules the shoulders and upper spine. If accessible, do a few shoulder rolls or movements while concentrating your intention, breathe the intention into your shoulders, thoracic and upper spine. Observe how it feels.
Write three words that embody your new story on the Bay Leaves (in sharpie). Burn the two leaves/words that you feel most confident in already. Offer them up to the spirits in gratitude for what you’ve already accomplished.
Put the one remaining leaf on your altar and commit to telling this story with your body and actions over the next two weeks. On the Full Moon and offer them up to the spirits in gratitude.
Close the circle.
