Venus Day Love List – 2 March 2023
Recommendations, songs, and other delightful things.
Lovers of the Mystery… It’s Venus Day!! I want to share the love!
Song I’m Currently Obsessed With:
I shared another album by this artist with my paid subscribers in my New Moon Download, but I had to share another one because I just love it so much. Derek Gripper creates the perfect atmosphere for writing, full of emotion, passion, longing, adoration, but no words (I can’t write to music with words). Artists, you’re going to love it!
My ADHD makes it notoriously difficult for me to eat at times, not because I don’t want to but because the idea of how many steps it takes to cook meals when I have so much other stuff to do. But I’m focusing on nourishing myself no matter what these days. My friend Patty turned me on to Rancho Gordo, a company based in Napa that focuses on preserving heirloom food sources indigenous to our region. The beans are SO EASY to make, I can make them on Sunday and have nourishing food for the rest of the week. AND their website has recipes, like Roasted Leek and White Bean Soup, or Black Eyed Pea Chowder [insert crying cuz it’s so good emoji here].
I often find that radicalism and witchcraft grow together, feeding each other. This book, “Joyful Militancy” by Nick Montgomery and carla bergman — feeds my witchcraft in the most delicious ways. First of all, it’s about how dismantling empire is a process of becoming more relational with each other, enjoying and supporting each other. They eschew radical spaces that create an atmosphere of shame and fear. For them it’s all about joy:
“What if joy (as the process of becoming more capable) was seen as fundamental to undoing Empire? What would it mean to be militant about joy? What is militancy when it is infused with creativity and love?”
BTW, I was thinking of starting a reading club for subscribers…
… only it would just be short essays because I feel like people never have time to read full books. Let me know in the comments below if you’d be interested in this.
Podcast Updates and Recommendations:
I’ve been on a few podcasts lately that I want to shout out because the conversations were so good… aaaand I want to remind you an episode of my own podcast, Between the Worlds, that I don’t want you to miss.
Art Witch Podcast with Zaneta Sykes where we talked about about the ecology of magic, our personal magical correspondences, ritual as listening, and the evolutionary roles that art witches play in our planetary healing and future. So good!
The Goddess Complex podcast with Ashley Michelle. A great convo where we explored shadow work (what is it, how to do it), the witch wound (what is it, how to deal with it), and what it’s like to be a public witch (for those of you who are thinking of coming out of the broom closet).
Between the Worlds podcast “The World Needs Your Art” episode with Beth Pickens where we discuss why artists are important, how to keep making work even if you're feeling depressed or anxious, and how to build a life that can support your creativity. We know you're going to love it! If you’re an artist trying to keep your chin up, this episode’s for you.
