Dryad: Vine, by Ithell Colquhoun. 1971.

Hey Literary Witches!

Can’t wait to chat about Communist Witches with you at our essay club tonight. As a reminder, here’s the intel:

Thursday 3/30, 6pm - 7:15pm PST: Essay [Reading] Club – This month we’ll be discussing Communist witches and cyborg magic: the emergence of queer, feminist, esoteric futurism, by Amy Hale, about art, creativity, witchcraft, and the disparity between how witches think of themselves and how the media reports on them.

Questions to think about before we begin:

  • What are three words you first think of after reading this essay (try to avoid words that don’t really mean anything like weird, different, cool)?

  • What was one thing you thought was particularly interesting about this essay?

  • What do you think the main point (thesis) of this essay was?

We’ll start from there and then see where the conversation takes us. We will also be doing a quick creative exercise to help us draw inspiration from the essay.

Can’t wait to see you there!
