Should witches aim for assassination?
... and a little bit about Uranus in Taurus
Inside TLDR: My views on the recent Trump assassination attempt, a little discussion of Uranus in Taurus and what witches should do next IMO, a Full Moon ritual reminder, AND an opportunity to win a free subscription to Mystery Cult and/or a copy of my book, Initiated: Memoir of a Witch.
However enticing the idea that Trump would just politely go away, I’m grateful he wasn’t assassinated.
At dinner Monday evening, my friend Max said that once someone becomes a martyr, the ideology they represent becomes impossible to remove and I agree.
If DT’s blood was spilt, it’s hard to imagine that the bloodshed would go unanswered by the many Americans who have guns and tremble with so much anxiety and fear that a “strongman” like DT appears like a refuge to them.
Of course, many of us are trembling at the moment. Many of us sense the world as we know it is rattling so fast it could blow itself apart at any moment.
Still, I see Trump like the Hydra: the poisonous 9-headed monster in The Odyssey, spewing toxic fumes and poisoning the land. Notoriously difficult to kill, for any head of the Hydra chopped off, two more grew in its place.
One of Hercules labors was to kill the Hydra, and he did succeed in the task. Once he was done, he dipped his arrows in the serpent’s poison blood and used it as a chemical weapon in many of his later adventures.
However, that same poison eventually led to his death. The poison of blood lust seeps into everything - we can see this truth everywhere around us in the cycles of violence and oppression answering poison with poison around the world.
In other words, even if one or the other candidates were removed, the work that we’re all hoping we won’t have to do will still remain to be done.
If Trump (and Genocide Joe) are the heads of the Hydra, its body is the ideology that gave the monster its power. The body is the system, the context, the corporations, the nation, which lives in all of us.
If Trump or Biden die or go away, all the problems that they represent will still be here. Genocide, the military industrial complex, the collapse of the health care system, bigotry, ecocide, big oil.
Really, that truth is the real terror. Men are mortal and easy to kill. None of us are indispensable.
It would be such a gloriously easy, seductive solution if the deaths of powerful individuals could make all our problems go away.
But, despite Trump’s belief in his omniscience, he alone can’t fix (or destroy) much of anything. He needs the courts, the Republican party, he needs funding bodies, and people waving flags and wearing MAGA hats at his rallies. Without all that, he’s just some guy.
I can hear some of my friends (and maybe some of you) protesting, “But if Trump gets elected, trans rights, the environment, kids at the border, democracy, etc. will all go in the dumpster!”
I agree that if Trump is elected it will be like squirting lighter fluid on the dumpster fire that is Western civilization. I DON’T WANT TRUMP TO BE RE-ELECTED.
But all of the horrors mentioned above are ALREADY happening, and have been happening since this country was founded. I don’t want to put a band aid on it anymore, I want to let this system die.
Violence may indeed be inevitable, I just don’t think it’s all that effective in the long term.
I want to slow things down so that we, the children of earth, can compost the Hydra from the ground up. Let’s start chomping!!
The hydra must be devoured by worms, by mold, mushrooms and pincer bugs then used to fertilize our gardens.
We have to dismantle the system that created the Hydra in order to grow something new that can nourish us all.
We have to transmute the poison to medicine by creating systems of care.
We can’t wait for them (the establishment) to help us because they are not going to.
And by we, I mean everyone. Every being on earth. This is a group effort. But for the meantime, let’s start with us, the beings we consider our family.
My family is you. It’s my friends, my loved ones, my cats. My family is writers and artists and witches and Palestine, Congo, and Sudan. My family is sage brush and river water. Giant swallowtail butterflies. Otters. Wind.
It is this family that I call upon now to perform the rituals of regeneration, to make good use of the Uranus in Taurus transit.

Until April 2026 Uranus is in TAURUS and Taurus is earth. Uranus is liberation, is revolution, is rebirth.
For too long, we humans have thought of revolution as the sword, as the guillotine, when really revolution is microorganisms (us) breaking down dead matter into elements that can replenish the soil.
Revolution is 10,000 little feasts.
Revolution is changing the culture that makes the violence and injustice around us possible.
Revolution is weaving our root network together to distribute the nutrients created by our dismantling of the Necrostate. It’s mutual aid, collaboration and care.
So, sure, vote. We can and should try to slow the train wreck down. But since the train has reached terminal velocity, we should all really be visioning together what comes next.
Let’s continue weaving our vision of global rebirth into our daily reality, moment by moment. THAT is how our garden will grow.
Victory to Gaia! Victory to the earth!
