Gratitude to My Crew (You)
Thank you all so much for your emails and comments on my last post. I can’t tell you how much it meant to feel all of you with me. Thank you especially for holding space for my anger. One of the things I want to do (here, for you, with Mystery Cult) is to figure out what we can DO with all this anger, in order to re-enchant the world. But before we can use our anger, we have to feel it. We have to allow ourselves to see how truly fucked up the Necrostate is. Our anger is a sword, and for the sake of all life on earth, we witches have to swing it! I am so proud of this community, and I love how you can sit with your anger, and the anger of others, without cowering or squirming away. Thank you for holding space for me! I love you so much!

Being Cunty + Being Correct
Most of the time, I love the emails I get in response to my newsletters (thank you to those who send them!). On very rare occasions however, some of them are annoying.
In those cases, I rarely share them or even respond to them because I’d rather keep my time and energy. But today, I’m going to share because… I feel like it.
After my newsletter about the firestorm that surrounded Los Angeles this week, someone wrote to me and said…
You are going through a lot of pain. As a female, calling someone a cunt is still unacceptable. Wishing you well. 🌙
Gurl. Where do I begin?
First of all, tone policing me on my own newsletter while I sit in toxic chemicals wondering if I need to evacuate while my friend’s homes are burning down and my entire city is surrounded by fire is also “unacceptable.” And patronizing. 🌙
As a matter of fact, tone policing like that is a function of white supremacy. I’m not saying that the person that wrote that IS a white supremacist, but I AM saying that the thought process a person has to go through to think that reprimanding me about the use of the word cunt in this situation is CLASSIC white supremacy culture.
Note that you don’t have to be white to be indoctrinated in white supremacy culture. Also, the characteristics of white supremacy, as defined by Tema Okun, are not something I am immune to by a long shot, but they ARE something I seek to be aware of in myself because I don’t want to perpetuate them.
In fact, I want to discuss the characteristics of white supremacy at a future reading group (bc they’re so helpful!) - and I can’t wait to ponder through it with all of you.
So if the person who wrote that note is reading this, I’m not shaming you, I’m just saying, err, you might want to rethink your strategy.
Also, in the spirit of re-thinking…
…I want to make an amendment to what I said about Mayor Karen Bass.
Since writing that she’s a f*cking c*nt on Wednesday I have learned that the budget shortfall that made me so furious is more nuanced than what I’d suggested…
… however, even though I used to love her (and voted for her), she HAS made a lot of bad decisions to penalize unhoused people, prioritize corporate profit over people and ecology, and has boosted funding for the horrific, disgusting LAPD — so I stand by my assessment of Bass as fucking cunt (in the pejorative sense).
However, people really need to understand that that cunt is a wonderful word. It has power! It can be used as a critique or a celebration. My dearest aspiration is to serve diva cunt every day. And to be a bitch. Just not a little bitch (which would be embarrassing). Anyway… deal with it, that’s how I feel. Sorry not sorry.
Am I “blaming ‘the Jews’?”
In another email response to my post on the fire, some dude emailed me to say:
“Blaming this fire on Israel. You are a real piece of work. Anything to blame the Jews. GFY.”
Just a few points of clarification.
A) I wasn’t blaming the fire on Israel. Duh. I was fuming about the foreign “aid” the U.S. sends to Israel while people in the United States suffer because of state negligence and corporate greed (like in New Orleans after Katrina, the wildfires in Maui, hurricanes in Puerto Rico, lead in drinking water in Flint, the infrastructure of LA, and on and on). Which is only made more egregious since Israel uses that money to blow up universities, hospitals, and aid trucks, starve children, and COMMIT GENOCIDE and ecocide. Israel Is the Largest Cumulative Recipient of U.S. Aid AND Israel trains and arms US police forces (which suck). So there!
B) More importantly, Israel is NOT “the Jews.” In fact, it is anti-Jewish and harmful to Jews everywhere to make that assertion. Israel is a state, funded by United States and other forms of Western imperialism. More Jews live outside Israel than inside. Further, many, MANY Jews are anti-Zionist and are in fact leading members of the resistance against Zionism. Three cheers for those heroes!
It’s also important to note that one of the justifications for the holocaust was that the Nazi regime equated being Jewish (a religion and ethnicity) with ideologies such as Bolshevism and Capitalism. (Which is ironic since those ideologies are antithetical to one another). There were many Jews who were neither Bolsheviks nor capitalists and many Bolsheviks and capitalists who were not Jews. But the Nazis blamed the entire Jewish population for ideologies some Jews believed (Bolshevism and capitalism), that many other people (including Germans) also believed in and practiced as well.
Equating all people from an ethnic or religious group with a particular ideology (like equating all Jews with Zionism) is called essentializing. Often related to scapegoating. And it can lead to genocide.
Most Zionists are Christian and/or Western imperialists, and they couldn’t give less of a fuck about the plight of Jewish people, or anyone else for that matter. All they care about is increasing their profit margins and securing Western interests in the Middle East. As soon as it’s in their interests to do so, they’ll abandon Israel and anyone who lives there. Western interests would (and do) destroy the future of their own children, and the entire planet, much less Israelis, or Jews, or anyone else. THEY. DON’T. CARE.
