Inside: A reminder of all the things we’ve accomplished this year in Mystery Cult and what we have coming up within the next few months. Plus! Get your monthly Witch Guide download and a reminder for the Full Moon ceremony this Sunday evening at 5pm.
Mystery Cult is one year old today…
Dear Reader,
A few moments ago, I just got off a Zoom with the Mystery Cult reading group where we talked about David D. Shorter’s “Spirituality” essay. During the sesh, we talked about how to transform our spirituality into relationality; we talked about how we don’t have the option to step out of our own histories and lineages, but that we do have the power to transform them. Mystery Cult member
(who has a gorgeous Substack herself — check out the link) talked about how she was inspired by the essay to go down to the river and leave offerings, asking for nothing, just to make a connection.Every time I gather with you, my hands start shaking with gratitude that somehow I’ve managed to gather around me a group of people who share the same values that I do. People who rattle me with their kindness, creativity, and humor. Who share with me books I don’t know, offer me new perspectives on enchantment, and who magically, somehow, also support the work I do in the world.
Victory to the goddess!! Huzzah in all directions!! You are the magic of my life! And I am SO GRATEFUL to each one of you! THANK YOU for being here.
One year ago today, I published my first post on Substack: “Welcome Home Witches.” In that first essay, I said…
I want this to be a place where we can go into the depths, where we don’t have to make it pretty, where we can just be ourselves. I want this to be our clearing in the center of the woods where we gather beneath the full moon. I want to call the spirits in, the Horned Ones, the Shining Ones, the Old Ones, the ancestors… I hope that if you decide to stay you consent to letting the mycelium of magic work its way into and transform your life, that however long it takes, we find a way to re-enchant the world, together.
Reader, we’re doing it! I can feel the webs of our enchantment growing stronger. And it’s a good thing, too. Because the world needs the enchantment burbling forth from us now. The world is parched. Its an honor to contribute to the rain, to be a drop in a cloud dedicating itself to the replenishing of life on earth.
Thank you for being here with me, I hope you feel as nourished by Mystery Cult as I do by having you in it, and I hope you stay.
Over the past year at Mystery Cult we have…
… done so many things together. In addition to about two essays a week, you’ve received (and practiced…):

— A 3-Part Course: Radical Witchcraft — Starting 1/7/24
Witches and oracles are radical agents of change. Witches use their voices to enchant (claim and cultivate power), oracles speak in the prophetic voice (to provide insight and inspiration), radicals seek to fundamentally change the nature of our society. In this 3 part series, we will look at witches as enemies of the state, oracles as inspirers of change, and ways that you can cultivate these radical voices in yourself and your community. (For Yearly and Founding Members)
— A “Baby Witches Start Here: Your Year Ahead” Downloadable Guide — Dropping 12/29/23
A few years ago I put out a guide called “Baby Witches Start Here” containing basic rituals that every witch should know, a list of books witches should read, and an outline of my understanding of what witchcraft is to help you on your journey. In this new and deluxe edition of the guide, not only will you get a “Baby Witches Start Here” refresher course, you’ll also get a guide to help you plan your practice for the year ahead (2024), which you’ll be able to check in with throughout the year. Upcoming: Live Full Moon Ritual This Sunday
11/26/23 at 5pm PST
On the Full Moon in Gemini, we will be listening for messages. In general, full moons are a good time to do any spiritual work related to receiving information, but this moon is especially auspicious. One great way to receive these messages is to practice smoke scrying. By candle light and the glow of the moon, we will light our most sacred herbs and gaze at the smoke. Messages will emerge in your psyche as the trance takes root.
