I had a crazy realization...
... it will probably seem obvious to you but...
I had a realization earlier this week…
I was watching television, it was late. I was exhausted. My mind was still racing and my body was tense. Trying to let go after a grueling and relentless schedule, I was eating something, I don’t remember what. And then I realized…
…THIS FOOD IS GOING TO NOURISH MY BODY.
I know this might sound strange (or, like, “Duh”) to those of you without ADHD - but it’s a thing with ADD folks that sometimes cooking for yourself or eating can turn into just yet another chore.
Don’t get me wrong. I love food. I love cooking. But when I’m stressed, I can be reduced to eating cold beans out of a can (I did it just last night, lol - everything else felt too complicated).
Somehow, because I’ve been pondering it, boiling it on the back burner of my mind until the fragrance of it finally found its way into to my writing desk, I’ve finally realized…
…caring for things, for beings, for people and communities (even yourself), is about INFUSING LIFE into them.
It’s about noticing the condition of your life force, or the beings you’re caring for, and tending to it. Hydrating it. Putting it in beautiful places. Making sure it gets air and light.
So next time you’re eating, or resting, are doing anything that might be considered caring for yourself or others… ask yourself: IS THIS INFUSING LIFE?
For me, and for MANY folks with ADHD (and maybe that means everyone in our hyper-mediated electro-world) my mind can whip around so fast, I can forget to tend to the very thing I value most: life itself!
Anyway, I’m saying all of this to you as a reminder for this week. Maybe it will help you choose care more often.
