Inside: A discussion of the Solar eclipse, what it means for the world and for you, and a reminder about the New Moon in Aries (exact at 11:23am pst)
Story goes, before a solar eclipse earthlings become agitated with a strange fear. An excitement.
Birds leap from their branches, horses bolt, cool winds begin to blow. Planets appear, glowing like thought bubbles around Apollo’s solar head in a veil of pale mist.
No matter your race or nationality, if you’re human, your ancestors cared about eclipses. They wrote myths about them and erected monuments.
Eclipses are written into the mythology of our collective mind.
Because of what scientists frequently call a coincidence, our Sun is 400 times larger than our Moon, and 400 times farther away, making the Moon and the Sun appear to be about the same size.
When the Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth at exactly the right angle at the edge of the lunar nodes, when the moon is new, it appears to cover up the Sun and we have a Solar eclipse.
The Earth and the Sun are linked by their magnetic fields. All life on earth is dependent on the Sun. Everyday we are immersed in the solar winds, which effect the weather and our moods.
You’ve probably heard many times that eclipses have historically portended the fall of kings and empires and things of that nature.
And you may have heard me say, many times, that eclipses are a good time to break curses, which are patterns that occur not to our favor.
This eclipse is happen during the New Moon in Aries. Aries is the sign of the Emperor, and the ego. This eclipse will help us see the state of our power.
On a very real level, eclipses allow us to see that which had previously been hidden.
During the Solar eclipse, we can see the stars and planets normally obscured by the Sun’s light.
The English Astronomer Norman Lockyer first saw a now famous elementary particle while applying a spectroscope to an eclipse. He named it Helium, after the sun god, Helios.
As it happens, even though we may not have known about it before, Helium (along with hydrogen) is the oldest element in the universe.
Physicists and astronomers have made discoveries about the nature of the sun, and the nature of space, and time, and the inner workings of the Universe during eclipses.
The scientific and the historical are both folded into the Eclipse’s mythology.
During Eclipses, empires fall, elements are revealed, patterns are reversed. As above so below, as in the solar system, so in your life.
Mythology, like the solar wind, is something that is constantly affecting us and at work in our life, but we have to look for it, pay attention, and then put it to use.
Today is a good day for journaling, reflection, and divination. The Moon in its power will merge with and eclipse the Sun. You have the opportunity to break a pattern, reveal a secret, open a porthole.
If you pay attention, you may be able to topple the oppressive empires that have been keeping you stuck. By the power of the eclipse, a King will be dethroned.
Below, I’ve given you some divination and journal prompts to help you see into the Mystery.
Time to awaken, grow, and thrive.
With love,
Amanda
