Moon Rose painting by Lydia Gatzo Art on Etsy.

In Old Europe, the June Full Moon was called the Rose Moon.

Thinking of this rosie moon made me smile the other day when I was out on a walk and saw a whole heap of those old fashioned white roses – the ones with the very loose petals – on the sidewalk the other day, victim to a trigger happy gardener.

I took them home and put them on my ancestral altar.

They remind me of my great grandmother and the tea cups she used to paint, and my childhood making perfume out of crushed roses and hose water. (Side note: Why is Gen X obsessed with our childhood relationship to hoses? 🤔 )

Here on Turtle Island, most tribes, but specifically the Algonquin people, called this moon the Strawberry Moon. Another winner!

I thought of the sweet strawberry moon in the grocery store the other day when I saw the first fat strawberries of the season. I love the moons and what the seasons bring us.

The June Full Moon is in Sagittarius, a mutable fire sign celebrating freedom, courage, justice, and joy.

Jupiter the Benevolent rules Sagittarius, making this moon a lucky moon.

And Chiron the Centaur makes an appearance as well. Chiron is the wounded healer, the creator of medicine.

This dynamic duo is coming through this Full Moon to remind us that healing can be easy and fun. Healing can be joyful!

Healing is a creative act. It’s what happens when all parties involved, all systems, come together to create something new that benefits everyone.

On this Full Moon, we are inviting in the medicine we need to heal our our deepest wound.

May this moon illuminate for each of us what we need to liberate ourselves, in joy, both individually and collectively.

With love,

Amanda

P.S. I’m having a Full Moon ritual this Thursday at 6pm PST. See below for details. It’s going to be a fun one!

This post is public so feel free to share it with your favorite moon lover.

  • Friday, 6/9/23, Substack Chat: Potentially Canceled (this week only). Normally we have these Fridays at 12pm, but this week I will be at a Trauma and Somatics workshop (because y’all know how I love to be trauma-informed and integrate Somatic techniques into my witchcraft!). Tentatively we might still be able to have it in the evening but it depends on how wiped I am from 5 days of intensive trauma work.

  • Saturday, 6/17/23 New Moon in Gemini Download comes out.

  • Thursday, 6/29/23 Language of the Birds Reading Group. This month we will be reading a section from Undrowned: Black Feminist Lessons From Marine Mammals by Alexis Pauline Gumbs. I’m not sure which section yet (will send out more info soon., but the book itself is quite short, and I highly recommend getting it because it’s creatively inspiring and ecologically empowering.

*If you can’t afford a subscription, email me and we can work something out. I want these rituals to be accessible for all. You can email us at: guardian@oracleoflosangeles.com
