We can think of Gemini like a toddler. A toddler wants to taste the dirt, put their fingers in all the holes, climb to the top of the refrigerator, see what’s under the bed. Toddlers are curious. They’re finally able to walk! They’re exploring the world for the first time. There’re so many interesting things to see and experience. The snap of rubber bands! Being chased by geese! Peanut butter playdough!
Walking with some friends today, my friend Patty – who moved to LA a couple years ago – was marveling about how when she first got here, she walked around slack-jawed all the time. The white sage in people’s gardens, real live palm trees everywhere, so many plants. But now that she’s lived here a while, she said, she sometimes forgets to notice what had caused her so much elation only a short while ago.
This Gemini season, I wish for all of us to remember that feeling of encountering the new. Of being surprised by things, of being surprised by each other and all the possibilities of what could happen and who we might meet. Even when we look in the mirror.
I wish for us to encounter each new being like dogs do. I love how dogs greet each other with such enthusiasm. WHAT?! They get to meet a new person?! OMG! Who is that across the street??? Is that a POODLE??? I WANT TO MEET THEM!!!
Dog greetings illustrate the spirit of Gemini, may we all strive to embody it this moon cycle.
I’m thinking about that enthusiastic curiosity in relationships too, whether it’s with people you’ve lived with for decades like your family, or a new neighbor, so often we can’t even really encounter people, because we project so much on to them. We’ve got to get all this baggage out of the way before we can really meet the people we care about. Perhaps it would be easier if we could communicate with our loved ones by smell, like dogs do.
Gemini energy fascinates me because it can even surprise itself. Gemini, the twins, are always encountering each other, both within and without. Self and shadow, self and other. Especially with people we know well, we can forget to be curious about them. We forget that people can surprise us, we can surprise ourselves. And the way to do that is to encounter everything with an open mind and a desire to learn.
The offerings that I’ve given you in the downloadable Witch Gide below are designed to help you cultivate communication, connection, and curiosity this month – all using magic and witchcraft.
We have so much to learn, so much to explore. Let us enjoy it!
Happy Gemini Season!
Love,
Amanda
P.S. Don’t forget that we have the Full Moon in Sagittarius ritual coming up on Thursday at 6pm, all about rekindling our sense of optimism and adventure. Can’t wait to see you there!
