Full Moon in Gemini
A moon that helps us make peace with our shadow selves.
The Shadow Moon
“To light a candle is to cast a shadow.” — Ursula K. Le Guin.
The Le Guin quote above is from the Earthsea Series. In it, a master wizard is telling his apprentice that even if he only uses his power for “good,” using power at all has serious consequences… some of them will inevitably be painful and beyond his control.
Over and over again with my private practice clients*, I've seen that often what MOST holds us back in our creativity, or our magical practice, in love, or in our professional work, is the fear of our shadow.
In other words we’re afraid of what the consequences will be if we allow the light of our true selves to shine out into the world.
Gemini initiates an encounter between the talking self (the ego) and the shadow self (the depths).
Our shadow holds all the parts of ourselves that we’re afraid to see. Our failure to find “The One,” our shame over giving up our dreams too easily, our anger eating us from within no matter how many times we receive an apology...
To work with the Gemini Full Moon is to integrate our anger, to transform our shame, and to sit quietly with our fears.
Find your shadow and you find your power.
Did you ever wonder why witches call their recipe books their “Book of Shadows”?
To encounter our shadow is to face a terrible and holy force. As witches, we walk into the cave from which the howling bellows. We arrive in the dark wearing horns and bearing gifts. A saucer of milk, a drop of blood.
Witches turn our demons into allies, because we know that it’s the fears we run from that truly have the ability to harm us, but the shadows we embrace can become the source of our power.
Power is the energy we have available to achieve transformation. And since life is transformation, power is life.
Power is MAGIC.
When we “step into our power” we tear down the dam of our fears and allow the torrent of the life force to flow through us unimpeded.
This Gemini Full Moon calls our shadow to us, these panting beasts, lurking around the edges of our consciousness, who are always with us, and won’t let go.
Our shadows are a beasts we can learn to ride. We can transform them into our most powerful allies.
Witches don’t have to IMAGINE working with our shadows, we work with them FOR REAL.

Gemini Moon Lore
Fun myths and magic to help awaken the Gemini Moon.
Gemini is the sign that most relates to communication, discourse, and the exchange of ideas. It corresponds to the Lovers Card in tarot. The Myth of Gemini is complicated, but basically it’s about two twins Castor and Pollux, who loved each other and were totally inseparable (they were also born of the same mother, but not of the same father — long story — which kind of makes me think they were queer lovers).
For magical purposes, two important aspects of this myth are:
a) Castor and Pollux had the power to raise winds that could calm stormy seas (which means Gemini has the capacity to create speech that can calm emotional storms).
b) They also spent half of their time in the upper world (Mount Olympus) and half their time in the underworld (Hades), (which makes a lot of sense in relation to shadow integration).
Moon Ritual Suggestions
The Full Moon is a time for listening and divination, a time to receive messages from the Unseen World.
The Gemini Full Moon is a time for receiving messages about how you can transform your inner demons of fear and anger into daimons of courage and inspiration.
As we discussed, shadow integration is favored during this moon.
