Book of Shadows Prize Winners February/March

You may recall that yearly and founder’s level subscribers get a workshop every year on creating a Book of Shadows — a witch’s journal of inspiration.

I think of our Book of Shadows like a cauldron, we sprinkle ourselves into it throughout the year, heat it with our intention, flavor it with our curiosity, and by the end of the year, we find ourselves transformed.

Our Book of Shadow is a safe place to reflect, aspire, and experiment. It connects us with the witches of yore and of our imagination, it connects us to the realms of enchantment.

Creating a Book of Shadows isn’t hard. The most difficult part about it is literally sitting your butt down and opening the page to do it!

My hope is that by sharing the work of our fellow Mystery Culters here below, they can share some of their fire with us, to inspire us to sit down for a few minutes a month and create our own cauldrons of magic.

This piece for the New Moon in Aries is by January’s prize winner Ramona S. I’m obsessed with the horns on this Aries ram and the wisteria is so vivid I can smell the blooms. The art nouveau lettering is an especially lovely detail.

Bird Fly Away says this image was inspired by the Pisces Season dream art prompt in the Witch Guide, and by a friend who visits in her dreams. Gorgeous!

This piece by Dandelion Magic was inspired by their natal chart! 7th House Suns, activate! Form of a dandelion!

I’m inspired by Emily’s pairing of the vesica pisces with the image of Persephone returning to Demeter, it empowers both images.

Emma shared that this piece was inspired by their dreams, and that working on it has made her feel more in touch with their practices. I’m inspired by the witchiness!

Gaby said that she’d previously been shy about her “little kid” drawing, but that this practice was helping her feel the freedom to draw. I love this drawing! It reminds me of the gargoyles in olde illuminated manuscripts.

These images by Jessica M. are vibrant and I love how the birds fly across the page. I also love the idea of using stamps for the dates in our BOS (even though these dates were for a ways back, we’ll let her sneak it in because it’s such a fun idea).

Mandy’s entry for Aries season captures the playful spirit of spring!

Shinjini says of this BOS piece that it includes a bit of Goddess magick and worship. The one on the right reminds me of a siren with her wing. A beguiling muse to sing in Aries season!

I’m loving this Ostara collage by Violet Hammersly, which really captures the joyful, tender quality of the holiday.
