Aries corresponds to the Emperor in tarot.
I always tell clients who have the Emperor as their soul card that they’re here to learn and teach empowerment.
To be empowered is to have the ability to create change.
We can see that empire certainly has that ability; it changes things all right. Empire has turned mountains into dust, oceans into acid, people into consumers and servants.
Those with the Emperor as their soul card are here to help us empower ourselves to overthrow empire and use our collective power to create something nourishing for all life on this planet and beyond.
For the collective, 2025 is the Hermit year, a class we’re all taking together to learn to trust our own personal connection to source.
In the month of Aries, our collective lesson is about recognizing where our power comes from. Our power to change, our power to grow, and our power to live deliciously.
But, to paraphrase Michel Foucault… power only comes into existence through its use. He was speaking of political power (i.e. the State only has power because it uses its power to make people do things, like pay taxes or go to prison). But I think it’s true in general.
For instance, the Sun has power because it uses that power to burn. If the Sun didn’t EXERCISE its power in burning, it wouldn’t BE powerful. What if that was also true for you?
You only have power when you exercise it.
All beings have power, because existing itself is an action. However, our power exists in various states: sluggish, violent, flowing, vibrant. And it can be used to heal or to harm, to cook or to cower.
Our political power as witches seeking liberation for all beings comes through its USE. If we don’t use our power, we don’t have it.
We gain power when we make calls, join forces, take action. We lose power when we do nothing.
But the good news is, even small actions make our power grow. Witch power comes into being through our practice.
This Aries season, together we shall attend to power in all its guises.
We shall pay attention to how it is operating within and around us, and in the world at large.
Being a witch means working with power, understanding it.
We can learn about power in many ways, we can read about it, watch it, and wield it. We can find it in the woods, in community, and in the dynamics of our relationships.
In Mystery Cult, we allow the astrological seasons to inspire us in our witchcraft, which means, they inspire us in our practice of living an enchanted, empowered life, in collaboration with the web of all being.
We listen for messages from that web, and then like the Ram, we take action.
