Aries Full Moon: Personal, Political, and Beyond

The upcoming Full Moon in Aries (exact on 10/17 at 4:26am PST) is the largest supermoon of the year. It will be the closest Full Moon to earth in 2024. The vital life forces sloshing in our blood are sure to feel the pull of this moon.

With its strong square to Mars, this is a wounded warrior moon.

Squares have the nature of Mars: combative, sharp, penetrating. Since this Moon is squaring Mars (the god of war), and in the sign of Aries (the Mystery School of the warrior), it brings to the surface conflicts related to identity, confidence, security, and un-resolved pain. But the strife promised by this moon could be generative if we work with it well, because Aries and Mars kindle our initiative, gumption, and willingness to grow.

Since it’s conjunct Chiron, this moon also invokes the wounded healer.

An Aries full moon conjunct Chiron speaks of the stories we tell ourselves about our identity: who we are, what we’re capable of, where we come from and where we’re going. Specifically, this lunar conjunction presses on our deepest wounds related to our sense of self, and offers medicine for healing them if we’re willing to sit with the bitter taste of drinking it.

The Personal

Work with this moon to address unresolved issues related to personal power. If you’re afraid to set boundaries, go for what you want, or make big decisions, this moon will be especially healing for you. Witches transform our fears into desires. Use this moon to re-imagine yourself as someone who CAN do the things you dream of.

The Political

Looking around us, we can see many societal wounds crying out for healing. Themes related to self-sovereignty, group-identity, power-over and mutual empowerment are especially active. Light candles for the ones whose voices have been lost. Take an action in solidarity with all who are fighting oppression around the world.

The Beyond

During our full moon ritual this week, we will harness the power of our imagination to overcome any obstacles that get in the way of our full engagement with the world. We will practice candle magic to help us access the power of this fire moon.

Please join me this Wednesday at 6pm PST for the Full Moon in Aries ritual.

How to Prepare for my Full Moon Ritual on Weds:

On Wednesday evening, at 6pm PST, for our Full Moon in Aries ritual, we’ll be practicing candle magic for protection and healing. It will gently help us face our fears, and find the courage and clarity we need to take our next step.

Ingredients:

  • 3 sabbath candles (like these)

  • a carving tool (like a nail or a knife)

  • honey or oil (olive oil works fine)

  • herbs for Mars (ginger, cayenne, mustard, pepper), the Moon (mugwort, willow, mint, yarrow, blue lotus), and a healing herb (camomile, turmeric, thyme, calendula)

  • a journal and writing implement

  • tarot cards

  • a drum or rattle (if you don’t have one put a few beans in a jar)
