I’m so excited to share with you the final workshop in the 3-part Hermit Year workshop series…
Who Are The Guardians: A Deep Dive Into the Four Directions & their Guardians — Space, Time, and Beyond.
Tomorrow, Saturday 11/4/25, at 11am PST…
…we’ll be discussing the Celtic spirits of the four winds, the idea of North, Koyukon weather deities, and Buddhist Lokapālas or daemons of the directions.
We’ll be using contemporary critical theory, such as the works of feminist post-colonial philosopher Sara Ahmed, as well as historical analysis of Northern European witchcraft practices…
…to explore the roots, meanings, and possibilities for working with the beings often referred to ceremonially as “the Guardians.”
Since the Directions feature prominently in cultures around the world, we can observe how our understanding of direction, space, and time are rooted in our cultural cosmology.
Further, as Ahmed points out, our orientation to space and time largely determines our path in life.
Which is to say that contemplating the directions, and how we perceive space and time, is not just an intellectual exercise.
Invoking direction literally forges the path you take. Direction has the power to change your future, and help you make sense of the past.
(If the future and past can even be said to exist! As we shall discuss).
Participants can expect to leave this workshop having a much deeper understanding of direction on many levels: philosophical, spiritual, poetical, and practical.
